There is always something happening at BRUU.\u00a0 Check out the BRUU calendar<\/a> for all scheduled activities, especially Social Justice<\/a> events.\u00a0 BRUUers are particularly engaged in Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement<\/a> (VOICE) actions, and in multiple local organizations addressing sustainability and conservation.<\/p>\n

BRUU is an active community beyond worship services<\/a> on Sundays; we ain’t boring. There’s lots of music<\/a>.\u00a0 We have regular (and irregular…) parties, outdoor activities, workshops\/classes, song circles\/drumming, and interesting off-the-cuff discussions during workdays as we paint and clean.<\/p>\n

Very rarely we have to cancel events due to events outside our control – see our inclement weather policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Regular Events<\/h3>\n

Adult Life Enrichment (ALE) <\/strong><\/a>– We explore a wide range of topics at adult “religious education” sessions on the third Monday of the month. (NOTE: schedule shifts around holidays…)\u00a0 Dinner starts at 6:00pm, and sessions last from 7:00-8:30ish.<\/p>\n

Adult Retreat<\/a> <\/strong>– The 2025 Adult Retreat will be November 7-9, 2025.
\n
\nAuction<\/a><\/strong> – Every year in November, we sell things and services (such as dinners, music events, art, game nights, vacation places to stay, yard work, and technical support) to generate funds for BRUU and create opportunities to get to know each other.\u00a0 The auction itself can get wild; who knrew a jar of lemon curd could be so valuable?<\/p>\n

Bible Discussion Group<\/strong><\/a> – We gather on the first Sunday of each month in the Flamingo Lounge from 9:00-9:45am, before Sunday Services.\u00a0 It’s a great opportunity to discover the wisdom\/myths\/history in one of the major sources of religious tradition.<\/p>\n

Book Group<\/strong><\/a> – We Zoom on the third Monday of each month from 3:30-5:00pm.\u00a0 Books are varied, but mostly fiction that is easily available in libraries.\u00a0 Discussion is always stimulating, even if the books are occasionally a dud.
\n
\nChrysalis Concerts<\/a> – <\/strong>There’s a roots\/folk audience in the Manassas area.\u00a0 BRUU delivers concerts every month or two to meet the need and provide a space to socialize with fellow fans and meet the musicians.<\/p>\n

CUUPS (Covenant of UU Pagans)<\/strong> meets third Sunday of each month at 11:30am.
\n
\nEmergency Food Pantry<\/strong><\/a> – 9:00-11:00am on second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. BRUU’s food pantry<\/a> is available to any person who needs food.<\/p>\n

First Fridays<\/strong><\/a> – 6:00-7:00pm on (you guessed it…<\/em>) First Friday of the month between April-November. Stop by and visit at the front door of BRUU on the corner of Church and Main streets between 6:00-7:00pm (look for the bubbles!) to mingle\/schmooze\/chat before enjoying the restaurants and special First Friday<\/a> entertainment in Downtown Manassas\u00a0 Around 7:00pm, we start to roast marshmalllows and make S’mores.\u00a0 (Portable fire pits are really useful…)<\/p>\n

Midweek Coffee Hour<\/strong><\/a> – There’s an informal check-in and conversation each Wednesday by Zoom, 10:00-11:30am.<\/p>\n

Monday Volleyball<\/strong> – During the Summer (weather permitting), members of BRUU gather on Monday evenings for friendly and energetic volleyball at a member’s home in Manassas. Potluck follows the game.\u00a0 (Some of us come for just the food and to pet the dogs.)<\/p>\n

Oak Grove Music Festival <\/strong><\/a>– Near Staunton two hours from Manassas, there’s a mature forest with a stage where Shenandoah Valley folk\/roots musicians and their fans gather annually on an August weekend.\u00a0 BRUUers are always in the audience, enjoying an “offsite” activity that’s a fun way to relax and recharge.

\nPrince William PFLAG Meeting<\/a><\/strong> – 7:30pm on Third Tuesday of each month. The mission of PFLAG<\/a> is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.<\/p>\n

Quaker Friends Meeting<\/strong><\/a> – Each Wednesday night at 6:00pm, at BRUU.\u00a0 Contact music@bruu.org<\/a><\/strong> for details.<\/p>\n

Sangha Meditation Practice<\/strong><\/a> – 7:00-8:00pm every Thursday night.\u00a0 Contact sangha@bruu.org<\/a><\/b> for more details.<\/p>\n

Second Sunday Hikes<\/strong><\/a> – 1:00-3:00pm on the Second Sunday of every month. The organizations which created\u00a0the\u00a0Greater Prince William Trails Coalition<\/u><\/a>\u00a0offer a hike to explore different places in Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park. BRUU’s Green Team is a member of the Coalition.
\n<\/em>
\nSociety of Audacious Silver-haired Sisters (SASS) <\/b><\/a>– third Tuesday each month.\u00a0 Meet at noon to “do lunch” at a local eatery, or join the 1:30pm meeting held in the BRUU Flamingo Lounge.\u00a0 No age restriction for joining the group.\u00a0 Contact sass@bruu.org<\/a><\/strong> for more details.<\/p>\n

Sound Healing<\/strong><\/a> – calm the nervous system, get better sleep and cultivate a sense of deeper connection, purpose and contentment.<\/p>\n

STANZA <\/b><\/a>\u00a0– Songwriters, poets and storytellers meet on the first Sunday of each month, 11:30am-1:00pm.\u00a0 Contact stanza@bruu.org<\/a><\/strong> for details.<\/p>\n

SUUSI<\/strong><\/a> – About 15 BRUUers attend the Southeast UU Summer Institute each year in July.\u00a0 “Church camp” is a great family experience, with a powerful youth\/teen program and lots of workshops\/nature trips.\u00a0 (Psst!\u00a0 It’s almost a music festival in disguise.)
\n<\/em>
\nWork Day<\/strong><\/a> – We get to know each other better when working together on basic maintenance, including painting, cleaning, organizing, and making our almost 100-tear old building sparkle.\u00a0 Work days are scattered throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Yoga With Bridgett <\/b><\/a>– 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00pm<\/p>\n

BRUUers also gather and “create community” at the Harris Pavilion in Manassas during the Summer for various music and programs here. Look for us on the west side (near Grant Avenue).<\/p>\n
