How We Can Celebrate Earth Day’s 50th Birthday?

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day.  Larry Underwood and Randy Freed of BRUU’s Green Team will lead a worship service focused on how we can honor UU’s seventh principle, Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

BRUU became a Green Sanctuary in 2005, and since then, we’ve made some strides in shrinking our environmental footprint as a congregation.  Join our Zoom service to hear about our latest steps, and what we can do as households and individuals – even in a time of social distancing – to keep Mother Earth healthy.

As part of Sunday’s Earth Day service, we’ll have a short demonstration of how to use a carbon calculator to estimate your individual or household footprint.  We’ll be using the calculator offered by terrapass, as they provide a link that allows you to purchase carbon offsets if you want.  The calculator is at https://www.terrapass.com/carbon-footprint-calculator.  The US Environmental Protection Agency also has an excellent carbon footprint calculator at https://www3.epa.gov/carbon-footprint-calculator/.

So if your vision for BRUU includes respect for the interdependent web, and social justice that depends on keeping that web healthy, this will be a good prelude for the post-service Town Hall on developing our Vision.
