She is also an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, sits on the boards of various nonprofits, and is a frequent speaker on immigration issues. She been awarded humanitarian service awards for her work in immigration through the years. She was at the forefront of advocating for immigrant rights when Prince William County began its racial profiling campaign in 2007 to have immigrants arrested and deported and helped get rid of the 287(g) program at the Prince William Adult Detention Center.
