Sangha Meditation Practice
The BRUU Sangha is starting the second year of gathering as a community. We meet each week on Thursday nights, 7:00pm at BRUU, with an experienced teacher to guide us on the first week each month.
Buddhism emphasizes mindful listening as a practice tied to compassion, awareness, and wisdom. This concept is woven through Buddhist teachings and practices, connecting it to mindfulness, ethical conduct, and inner transformation. By practicing mindful listening, one aligns with the Buddhist ideals of presence, compassion, and wisdom, deepening connections with others and fostering inner peace.
By practicing meditation in community and growing in understanding of the Dharma, the Sangha wants individuals and the community to awake to their true selves. We practice mindful listening with partners and explore the best way to respond rather than react.
Please arrive several minutes before the start time at 7:00pm. If you have not attended a prior BRUU Sangha gathering, please contact Randy Earl at sangha@bruu.org to get necessary information for access to the building.
Teachings On The Opportunity of Distraction
Dealing with Distractions: Part 1 June 5; Part 2 June 10
Buddhism teaches that distractions in everyday life are opportunities to cultivate mindfulness and develop a deeper understanding of the mind. Distractions often arise from the mind’s habitual tendencies toward craving, aversion, or restlessness. Buddhism encourages observing them with awareness rather than reacting impulsively. Through practices like mindfulness meditation, we learn to gently bring attention back to the present moment whenever the mind wanders.
The teachings emphasize patience and compassion for oneself in this process, recognizing that distractions are a natural part of human experience. By understanding the impermanent and fleeting nature of thoughts and external stimuli, we can reduce their attachment to distractions and focus on what truly matters. Ultimately, Buddhism views distractions as valuable teachers, guiding individuals toward greater clarity, calm, and insight into the nature of reality. We will discuss how distractions can be helpful teachers and assist in deepening our practice.
The class & meditations led by Ann will start at 7:00 PM and will be in the Fellowship Hall. Please arrive several minutes before the start time of 7:00 PM. If you have not attended a prior BRUU Sangha gathering, please send an email to Sangha@BRUU.ORG to express your interest in attending and to get necessary information for access to the building.
